Meet Your New Neighborhood Vet!

Kathleen Olson, DVM

Dr. Kat Olson grew up in Marin County graduating from San Rafael High School in 1997.  She attended U.C. Davis for undergrad and graduated Vet school there in 2005. She has practiced in Marin since graduation spending 17 of those years at The Country Vet in Novato as well working relief for many local emergency hospitals and Guide Dogs for the Blind. She also has been a part of the surgery team at Pet Emergency and Specialty Center of Marin for the last 3 years. 

Education and Advanced Training:

• She earned her veterinary degree in 2005 at U.C. Davis. 
• In 2011 she completed her acupuncture certification at the Chi institute 
• 2019 she completed the U.C. Davis Don Low Fellowship in anesthesia at the U.C. Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.

Volunteer: 

• She is an active volunteer in the veterinary community serving on both  the Marin County Veterinary Medical Association board in several potions over 2 decades as well as the California Veterinary Medical Association  House of Delegates for the last 4 years. She has served on the section committee U. C. Davis Don Low UC D fellowship since 2020.
• She has volunteered at the Marin Humane Society vaccine clinics and tried to foster for them once but cried for 2 weeks after she had to give the puppy back.
• She has volunteered on two different mountain lion conservation projects in Sonoma and Modoc County since 2017 and at the Chimpanzee Sanctuary of the Northwest since 2024. 
• She is the District Commissioner of Rosewood Rider’s Pony Club in Novato where she mentors children in horse care and management.

Personal Life:

• Dr. Kat, her husband and her two young daughters live on a hobby farm in Novato with 2 Connemara ponies, 2 mini horses, 1 sheep, 2 goats, 13 chickens, 2 dogs, 4 cats and 2 tortoises including her 100 pound Sulcata tortoise, Tank.
